Speed is a feature: Keeping your Omni site fast

Slow pages lose demos before the headline loads, and Google measures the delay. But most performance problems on B2B websites are not technical. They are editorial: A 4 MB hero image, five tracking scripts and a video that autoplays on a phone.

The good news is that marketing can fix most of it.

Why speed is a sales metric

A slower page converts worse, ranks worse and gets crawled less, including by the AI engines now reading your site. Speed is not a developer concern. It is part of the offer.

Core Web Vitals in one minute

Google's three numbers, in plain language:

  • LCP (Largest Contentful Paint): How fast the main thing appears. Aim for under 2.5 seconds.
  • INP (Interaction to Next Paint): How fast the page reacts when someone taps or clicks. Aim for under 200 milliseconds.
  • CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift): Whether things jump around while loading. Aim for under 0.1.

What HubSpot and Omni already handle

HubSpot serves your site from a global CDN, resizes images on the fly and minifies the theme's CSS and JavaScript. Omni is built from HubSpot's own building blocks, so there is no plugin stack adding weight, and every module is responsive by default with no separate mobile layouts to maintain.

That covers the platform. It does not cover what you upload.

The five things only you can fix

  1. Images. Upload at the size you need, not the size the camera produced. A hero needs 2,000 pixels wide, not 6,000.
  2. Third-party scripts. Every chat widget, pixel and tag adds load. Keep the ones you act on, remove the rest.
  3. Fonts. Two families, three weights. Set them once in the theme settings and stop adding.
  4. Video. No autoplay in the hero. Use a poster image and let people click.
  5. Stacking. Three heavy modules above the fold is a slideshow, not a page. Lead with one.

The ten-minute check

Run your home page and your busiest landing page through PageSpeed Insights. Open the Core Web Vitals report in Google Search Console. Fix the worst page first, then repeat once a month. Use Omni's mobile preview before you publish; that is where most of the layout shifting shows up.
